Our Instructor
Ryotan Steve Treagus began practising Zen Buddhism in 2009 at Berkeley Zen Centre, USA. He received Jukai (took vows to uphold 16 Zen Buddhist Precepts) from Zenkei Mary Mocine, abbot of Vallejo Zen Centre (VZC), USA, in 2016. Steve was Shuso (head student) at VZC in 2018 and received lay entrustment to teach Zen from Mary in 2023.

Our Linneage
Great Stour Zen Meditation Group is a Soto Zen Buddhist group in the lineage of Shinryu Suzuki, a Japanese monk who immigrated to the USA in 1959. By the time of his death in 1971, he had essentially founded Soto Zen on the continent.
